Spiegel Securities & Corporate Law is a Toronto-based securities law firm focused on business law, securities law, corporate finance, and advocacy. Our founder, Robert Spiegel, is a Harvard-trained mediator and negotiator, and has received the designations of Qualified Arbitrator and Qualified Mediator by the ADR Institute of Canada [See credentials] Robert is an experienced and effective advocate, and is counsel to Roy O'Connor LLP, one of Canada's leading boutique litigation law firms. We understand business, securities law and securities regulation.  In addition to practicing securities and corporate law for 25 years, Robert held in-house counsel positions at the Toronto Stock Exchange for over seven years.  He is highly experienced in addressing both business objectives of clients and the securities regulatory and public interest mandates of securities industry regulators that must be satisfied by our clients.   

Backed by over 30 years of capital markets and regulatory experience, Spiegel Securities & Business Law serves both publicly-listed and private businesses based in Canada, the US and overseas.  We are a securities law firm boutique in size and scaleable to accommodate  projects by selecting lawyers in related areas of practice, including tax, IP and litigation, which enables us to support the spectrum of legal and business issues that affect our clients.

Our Principal
Robert Spiegel

Robert has provided legal counsel to boards and senior executives throughout his career. His experiences as a lawyer include seven years as legal counsel at the Toronto Stock Exchange, Canada's principal stock market, years as a client-appointed, chief executive officer and chief legal officer of listed mining companies. Robert has been a director of several public and private companies. Robert has also chaired and served as instructor at Continuing Professional Development programs in the areas of mining, corporate finance law, securities law compliance and banking, through Federated Press, and at the TSX Venture Exchange at its course on insider trading.

Robert is fluent in French, and has worked at some of Canada’s largest law firms in both Montreal and Toronto.  He was a partner in a boutique securities practice for 19 years prior to founding this firm. He has represented investment dealers, high net worth individuals,and private and public companies in financings, M&A deals, RTOs and stock exchange listings, and on matters before securities commissions and administrative tribunals. Robert’s experience helps to bolster files he leads. 

 

Robert is of counsel to Roy O’Connor LLP, a leading Canadian litigation boutique, with whom he has been involved for many years on joint retainers at administrative hearings and on litigation matters related to securities and corporate finance matters.
